been awhile

wow…so lightning in a bottle was amazing… even though I was stuck in my booth during the daylight i still enjoyed every second of it. I tried my best to make the most of the nights even though I was running on empty by the end of the day. Working a month LIB on very little sleep I was totally energized by friends who are very much considered family. There smiles, dance, touch, beets, warmth, and fine asses kept me alive at night. I was really reminded how the positive mind frame of a group can keep even the darkest storm clouds away. It was brilliant. So now I am off preparing for my next trunk sale in NYC…being set up by my little sis. She is on it and puttin the word out that KUCOON is heading east.

It feels right to have Sheila B with me. She is a total inspiration and can handle my stress… which is hard, damn I should know I live with it. She is known for her feathered earings, clunky crystals, shells, seahorses, and big blue eyes. I welcome Sheila B. jewelry with open arms to KUCOON, she is a great addition.

Allan Amato (venus swept photography)

I remember the first time i shot with Allan, he was so low key. Every photographer has their own personality, but his was so mellow! I was wondering if he was going to stop half way through and take a nap. I was hesitant to see the photos after we shot for the first time …. and was totally shocked when i saw that the pictures were in focus, better then in focus, they were perfection. He had the magic touch and made they models look flawless…. as well as my clothes. Still workin it Allan just did a shoot with KUCOON recently (models Hans and Priscila) hair and make up was done by Mary Frasca, Priscilas white feathered head piece by KAMA (ramona)

Ben Cope was taking pictures of my clothes from the beginning starting in 2004. The time line of my progression as a designer has so much to do with the photographers who documented it. I remember who, where, and what I was doing on each one of the days I did a shoot with Ben Cope, Allan Amato, Nathan, Vikram, Siouxzen. Thank you all so much for being apart of my journey.  Below was a shoot for my catalog done by bencope.net with box eight , model Sarah Brewer, hair Candice Birns.  She is wearing  top (sheena shirt, with sara shorts) left (sheila shrug)  right (ramona dress) by KUCOON.

TONIGHT at Haveron Studios (dwntown LA)

Hey all Sheila B will be selling her flavor filled feathers of all colors tonight at Hans Haveron’s Studios 8pm-1am…. as well as crystals and golden sea horses.

Also Cmon and Kypski will be playing and live airbrush of models done by Andrea Spratt (kucoon designer) and Hans Haveron (the all around artist).  come check it out tonight Friday May 2nd.

Missy wearing KUCOON couture

My little sister, Allison Spratt aka Missy, has made it to broadway, yet again with CRY BABY the musical.

When we were little, and lived in a one story house in Oklahoma next to the pig farm, I used to drag her by her bunny suit all over the house, (she loved it). I would look down at her big smile and electric hair and go for another round about the house until she got tired of it. Now I am dressing her up to walk on the red carpet, and I think she might like it as much as being dragged around on the floor. My sister, as well as the rest of my family has been timidly excited about me creating a totally different life for myself as a designer.

Just today the reality of how different my life is today versus two years ago… hit me as…..I walked up to the court today to plead NOT GUILTY for running through flair lights. As I approached the line I saw a young kid staring at me. Looking at me through the brim of his baseball cap he said “hey miss spratt”, it took me about 3 seconds before I remembered he was a student of mine from four years ago, at Fremont High School in South Central LA. His name was George, he never did any work, came stoned to first period everyday and always wanted to help out in anyway possible. He loved my class and asked as many questions as he could fit in in the hour, but when it was time to do work he drew clown faces on his worksheets. Some kids you never forget and I guess in his case there are some teachers you never forget.

So here I am now designing clothes and making people beautiful… its just as fulfilling and I am not missing cafeteria food at all. But I do miss my kids, even though they drove me crazy, I miss em.
